To the locals it’s Rotto or simply Rottnest but this island about 20 kilometres from Freemantle has been a tourist spot for locals and internationals for many years. It has a fascinating history going back to indigenous times. In more recent years it’s been an internment camp [for both wars] and a military installation.
In the not too distant past people on Rottnest Island used to communicate with those on the mainland via semaphore. Not too many iPones around in those days!
It’s popular
About half a million people travel to Rotto every year. Its popularity continues and now that Leavers have chosen the island as a site for their November celebrations, it’s become even more of a tourist hotspot. The beauty for teens in November is that there are so many accommodation options on the Island. There are hotels and lodges, the former Governor’s estate and even terrific camping grounds.
The natural attractions are a major draw card. The beaches are fantastic and boating activities are happening along many parts of the coast. The native flora and fauna are interesting if not fascinating and the walks all over the island are a great daytime activity.
It’s perfect
With an established travel and tour operator like Sure Thing, all those booking and ID things are taken care of. Everything is taken care of. Once you register with Sure Thing, they know every detail you’ll require for your Leavers week on Rottnest. You need to concentrate on choosing what you’d like to do.
